Recommendations For National Drink Wine Day

Gentle Readers, Welcome to that time of year! This is a day to sit back in your comfortable chairs (the ones with your imprints) and sip with your favorite varietal. Or, be wild and try a new one.

Anne Amie

It is always a pleasure to include the offerings of Anne Amie. Founded by Dr. Robert Pamplin, the primary focus of Anne Amie is on the pinot. More specifically, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc. They are a Salmon Safe organization.

 (2) 2014 Pinot Noir Two Estates SRP $35.00

The nose is a light grape. The sip is light. We added a blueberry/lemonade juice to it for a nice kick! Lovely.

Ballard Lane

Ballard Lane, the brand is synonymous with the California area in which it resides. Present are redwood forest groves, beaches, coastal inlets, Arabian horse ranches and ancient oak groves. The Central Coast has much to offer for winemaking endeavors.

 (1) 2016 Sauvignon Blanc Central Coast - No SRP

This Sauvignon Blanc has a ripe peach nose. It enters on a slightly bubbly note along with a cavalcade of fruity essence. It is normally difficult for us to discern various fruits. But, sometimes, it's just good to know what you like!

Castoro Cellars

Castoro Cellars has offered wines since 1983. Their estate grown wines are located on the east and the west sides of the Paso Robles Wine Appellation. These are sustainably and organically farmed. The end results are the freshest fruit in this area.

All of these varietals are award-winners. We had no problem getting the other reviewers to assist us in trying them. Good times!

(1) 2015 Castoro Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon SRP $16.00
(2) 2015 Castoro Cellars Merlot SRP $16.00
(3) 2015 Castoro Cellars Zinfusion Reserve SRP $24.00
(4) 2016 Castoro Cellars Chardonnay SRP $24.00

2015 Cabernet Sauvignon

This cab has a deep red, brick color. Fruit offerings include wild berry, red currant, and smoked cherry. These are all discernible on the palate. Pairs best with any hearty entrée or a selection of rich cheeses.

2015 Merlot

This is brick red dark and has a full nose of rose petals. The Merlot is a lot softer tan the Cabernet Sauvignon.

It pairs well with any cheeses, roasted meats, or vegetable dish.

2015 Zinfusion Reserve

This is a deep, red garnet in hue. It has a nose of raspberry, cherry and wild strawberry. The palatte is full-bodied with a slightly peppery finish. Didn't see that coming!

Pairs best with a rich pasta or meat entree.

2016 Chardonnay

The nose is fruity and the first taste has a very nice bite of sour at the end. So nice! We do not care for bitter. But we do enjoy a fruit, or other type of sour.

The grapes are harvested in September of 2016 from Paso Robles.

Cellars Wine Club

Cellars Wine Club is the leading purveyor of wine clubs since 1999. Cellars provides gift deliveries and ongoing monthly subscriptions designed to suit the needs of all. They provide many plans. Plans range in price from $29.00 to $389.00.

(1) 2013 Agusti Torello Mata Reserva Cava
(1) Parigot Crémant Debourgogne Blanc Brut

Agh! We love the bubbly. These were just incredible. The representative who graciously assisted us knew exactly what we wanted!

J. Wilkes

J. Wilkes is a California winery, which crafts product by hand. The company is named for the efforts of Jeff(erson) Wilkes, who was a winegrower and a wine grape salesman for twenty years. He introduced his first label in 2001. His last wine was made in 2010, the same year of his unfortunate passing.

(1)2015 J. Wilkes Santa Maria Valley Pinot Blanc SRP $18.00

The pinot blanc is the color of a Winter's bale of hay and has outstanding clarity. The nose is a vibrant earthy fruit in a delightful medley. The palate enraptures as do the Season's themselves. It pairs well with seafood, salty pork, smokey BBQ, charcuterie or salumi.

Smashberry Wines

Smashberry Wines is an award-winning winery, located in California.

This full-bodied red wine has a nose that makes you want to dive right in. It is both fruity and earthy. Comprised of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Syrah, 25% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, it's a little bit country, a little bit rock and roll and a whole lot of mellow.

(1) 2016 Smashberry Paso Robles Red Wine SRP $15.00

The nose is grape with a slightly fruity foundation. The sip is strange. It begins fruit forward, evens out and completes with a dry finish.
