Whisper: How to Hear the Voice of God. Mark Batterson

5 of 5 stars

Normally, I will only scan prologue's and introduction's. I mean, really. It's usually a serious meh.

However, Whisper has a really powerful prayer on page three (in the prologue). I won't spoil it for you. You'll have to look for yourself. But, feel uninhibited not to miss it.

Whisper: How to Hear the Voice of God. Mark BattersonIf there's something that I find troubling about this book, it's the fact that Batterson has heard a whisper of God's voice. I don't add that, in the sense that's it's less-than. I just don't understand.

See, I've known three people who have heard the audible voice of God and it was not a whisper. It was loud enough to be heard on a physical level. Three different people on a hand full of junctures. The voice was so loud that it frightened each of these three people.

While I do not dismiss the experiences of Batterson, I do wonder why he experienced what he did as a whisper. God is God, after all. He spoke up for the people for whom I know and while I do not dismiss Batterson's experiences, I do wonder why he had to work so hard for what he received.

Here's the deal. I do not mean to down-play the experiences of this author. I don't. I can only imagine what it is like to hear the voice of God.

Granted, Batterson has authored a whole book and a large part of it is about whispering and the importance therein. He backs it up with Scripture too.

But, what about us who could benefit from a hearing aid?

Plus, God knows that I'm somewhat deaf from sitting in front of trumpet players for entirely too many years. If the Father ever speaks to me, I am seriously hoping that it doesn't occur in a whisper.
