National Bourbon Day: June 14, 2017

We celebrate the Spirit of America on June the 14th of this year. A spirit must be distilled in the U.S.A. to be considered Bourbon. It also has to be 51% corn and stored in new charred-Oak barrels. Finally, it also has to be no more than 160 proof.

Tuthilltown Spirits Farm Distillery

Tuthilltown Spirits Farm Distillery is the first distillery in New York since the Prohibition Era. In 2005, Tuthilltown Spirits re-introduced the small batch spirits tradition to the Hudson Valley. Founder Brian Lee is responsible for designing, engineering and building the facilities.

Lee is a new-millennium man who is looking to energetic resources for growth and evolution. Currently, he serves in the capacity of CFO. Who knows where the company will be in just a few years?



  • 2 parts Hudson Baby Bourbon 
  •  3⁄4 parts simple syrup 
  • 2 fresh lemon wedges 
  • Several sprigs of fresh mint Club soda

Muddle lemon, 4-6 mint leaves and simple syrup in the bottom of a rocks glass or mason jar. Add cracked ice and Hudson Baby Bourbon, and top with splash of club soda. Stir briefly to combine and garnish generously with a bouquet of mint.


  • 1 1/2 parts Hudson Baby Bourbon 
  • 1 part Aperol aperitif 
  • 1/2 part lemon juice 
  • 1/2 part honey syrup (1:1 honey and hot water) 
  • Dash of Bittermens Elemakule Tiki Bitters 
  • Generous splash club soda or seltzer 
  • Lemon wedge & candied cherry

Shake ingredients except soda with ice and strain into a rocks glass or small mason jar over fresh ice. Top with soda/seltzer. Garnish with lemon wedge and candied cherry on a pick.


  • 2 parts Hudson Four Grain Bourbon 
  • 1 part Blanc/Bianco vermouth (*not* dry vermouth—Cinzano, Carpano, Dolin all have blanc/bianco vermouths that work well) 
  • 1 part Aperol aperitif 
  • 2 dashes Regan's Orange Bitters Lemon twist garnish

Add ingredients to mixing glass with ice, stir to chill, and strain into stemmed cocktail glass.* Express oils from lemon twist over drink, and garnish.

Hudson Baby Bourbon Whiskey is an award-winning spirit, which is stored in a first-use charred barrel, comprised of American Oak. The bourbon is 100% corn and is an enchanting deep amber in hue. The nose is sweet and whiskey-like. It almost smells of Wild Turkey.

Last year, William Grant & Sons was honored as 'Distiller of the Year' and ‘Scotch Producer of the Year’ by the prestigious 'International Wine & Spirit Competition.'
