Craft Beer Menu Monday: Abita Brewing Company

Abita beer was founded in 1986 in Louisiana.  By 1994, they had outgrown their original site, which is now a 100-seat brew pub.  Today, Abita brews over 151,000 barrels of beer and 9,100 of root beer in a state-of-the-art brewing facility.  They are privately owned and brewed with pride.

We recommend Abita Brewing Company not just because their screaming popularity in the Louisiana area.  But, also because this is our second time with their beers and we like them. Also, they create and produce so many different kinds, that even the pickiest amongst us can surely find something to park on.

Craft Beer Menu Monday: Abita Brewing Company
  • 8 Flagship Brews
  • 5 Seasonals
  • 4 Harvest Brews
  • 6 Big Beers
  • 1 Big Beer from the Bourbon Street Series
  • 1 Root Beer

(1) Mardi Gras Bock Seasonal (6 Pack)
(1) Spring IPA (6 Pack)
(1) Strawberry Lager Ale (6 Pack)

The Mardi Gras Bock Seasonal (13 Proof) is the first of the five seasonals and is brewed with pale, pilsner, caramel melts and German Perle hops.  It is similar to German maibocks, due to its rich, malt flavor and a full body.  Pairs well with Mexican food, roasted beef or pork.

The Spring IPA (13 Proof) is the second of the five seasonals.  The hop flavor is as intense as the aroma.  Abita employs Amarillo and Centennial hops, along with a citrus and a spice flavoring.  It pairs well with Mexican or spicy Szechwan Chinese food.

The Strawberry Lager Ale (8 Proof) is a harvest brew and definitely our favorite of the three.  It's a lager brewed with pilsner and wheat malts and Vanguard hops.  Abita adds real Louisiana strawberry juice after its filtered, which results in a crisp lager with a sweet strawberry flavor, aroma and haze.  It is nothing short of divine!  Pairs well with fresh cheeses.

Abita beers can be found in liquor and grocery stores and restaurants.  In fact, we punched our very own zip code into the beer finding form and it populated with quite a few outfits!  Yes!
